pearl lee short, Director
I have been with Club for 30 years now and I'm still learning something new everyday. I love seeing the Club Kids grow and develop into delightful adults who come back and visit or even work with me! Club has been my "second home" for so many years that it may be, at this point, my "first home." I am the longest standing employee at this school's campus. I love it here so much because it's not every job that someone gives you a hug when you come in and one when you leave for the day.
I have lived in Walnut Creek since 1970 (moved from Berkeley). I have two sons (both grown up and married) who are both Buena Vista alumni. I live with my husband, Bob and furry babies, Sonny (2-year old Formosan Mountain Dog/GSD/Pittie Mix), Merricat (3-year old ARF Rescue Calico Kitty), and Luna (6-mo old Formosan Mountain Dog/Doberman Mix). The ways I enjoy my time away from Club are spending time with my family, babysitting my grandson, Theo, traveling, swimming in the ocean, going to the movies, working out with my trainer, Terry the Torturer, drawing, painting, throwing, theater-geeking, watching sports (especially the Warriors and A's), playing my guitar, electric bass, and uke, reading & gardening. I also have my side business, "Pearl's Paper Nursery LLC", creating artistic paper flowers (all sizes) and have provided them as arrangements, flower walls, bouquets, decor, and accents to a few weddings (including my sons'!), the 2018 On Broadway Gala at the Lesher Center and displays in retail shops. Two of my pieces will be going national along with the Bedford Gallery’s 3-year traveling exhibit, “The World of Frida.” Come visit: pearlspapernursery.squarespace.com
Come say hi anytime. If you don't see me, follow my loud laugh... you'll find me! :o9
carl morimoto, assistant director
Hi, my name is Carl Morimoto. I've been working at Club for 20+ years. I have enjoyed my time at Club and still love coming to work everyday.
When I'm not taking my daughter, Samntha (10) to gymnastics or my son, Nicholas (6) to baseball, I enjoy running, golfing and spending time with my family. I'm a big Giants, Niners and Warriors fan.
I look forward to getting a chance to meeting you and working with your children.
chris "bubba" aguiar, head teacher (Alumnus)
My name is Chris, but everyone calls me "Bubba". I have worked at Club for over 20 years and attended as a child. The Club has been a huge part of my life.
Working at Club for so long, i've had the opportunity to watch kids grow up, graduate college, have kids of their own, become my co-workers and, most importantly, become my friends. Club is more than just a job. It's my home away from home and my family.
When I'm not at Club, you can find me at A's games, Minor League Baseball games, Disneyland and local 10k runs.
tina kuperstein, teacher
My name is Tina Kuperstein. I've been working at Club since 1997. When I'm at Club, I am with the Kindergartners creating fun and unique art projects or molding things out of clay with the first and second graders.
When I'm not at Club, I enjoy making paper flowers for events such as baby showers, weddings and bridal showers. I also have a love for drawing mandalas and painting with acrylics.
I live in the east bay with my husband and baby son.
cathy kenny, teacher
Hi! My name is Cathy... Cathy with a "C". I joke around with my mother about how she purposely spelled my name with a "C" because most of my life passions have begun with a "C": children, cakes, cross-fit and Club!
I started working at Club back in 2005 as a Teacher's Aide. At the time, I just graduated from high school. I had no idea what I wanted to study, but after my first month of working at Club, I instantly knew I wanted to work with children. I eagerly completed my initial Early Childhood Education credits and was promoted to Teacher. I continued my education at San Francisco State University and received my Bachelor's Degree in Child Development. During my studies, I gained experience working with children in multiple environments: the K-5 classroom, preschool, special needs and after school programs. Within all the the environments I was gravitated to the importance of Play. I found that all the different types of Play were crucial in a child's development and I wanted to make it my priority as I continued my career of working with children. Club has fostered that prime environment for me. I look forward to a new adventure everyday! I find a lot of joy in providing quality care and education to the Club children and their families.
My life outside of Club includes my other passions. I enjoy expressing my creativity with baking and making custom cakes at P.S. I Cake You. I also love to stay active. I have found that cross-fit has been a great way to challenge myself physically and mentally. A major priority in my life is my own family and friends. I recently got married and my husband and I enjoy taking on new challenges that come with "adulting" while trying to have fun in the process. We had a baby boy in March! Overall, I enjoy living life to its fullest. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me! I hope to hear more about you and your child when I see you at Club!
sam carlson, teacher (alumnus)
Hi! My name is Sam Carlson and I’ve been working at Club since 2009. I’ve always enjoyed my job here because being here is always fun and entertaining. I do sometimes get a little too into the games and lose my voice, it’s been known to happen.
BV Club seems to have always been a part of my life. When I was a kid, I went to Buena Vista and even attended Club on a regular basis. I liked it here so much, that when I needed a job, I thought that working here would be interesting.
Outside of work, I am really into video games and watching TV (my favorite show is Doctor Who).
mollie kennedy, teacher
Hi There! My name is Mollie Maura Rae Kennedy. Yes I have two first names, but most of the Club Kids just call me Mollie.
I have been working at Club for about six years now and I am happy to say that I love my job. I am very passionate about the children I work with and strive to improve at my job everyday.
Thank you for reading a little bit about me! :)
aja hodge, aide
Hi, my name is Aja. I have been a Teacher's Aide at Club for five years.
I enjoy showing the kids how to make creative and exciting art projects and sculptures in ceramics.
When I'm not working, I like to listen to music, making art of my own and going to the gym.
SEAN KENNY, AIDE (ALUMNUS)
Hi, my name is Sean. I'm 26 now, but have been at Club since I was a Kindergartner myself!
Being a Leader is so much more different than I thought it would be as a kid, but it's very rewarding knowing that we are shaping the future generation to have better success in life.
I just started working here last winter and I'm very excited to continue my new journey here at BV Club!
serina bansraj, aide
Serina will be going to SJSU to begin her nursing program in the Fall of 2017-18. Good luck, Serina! We will miss you!
jean cheng, aide (alumnus)
Jean will be going to SDSU this fall to begin her collegiate journey. Good luck, Jean Bean! We will miss you too!
Ellie gallagher, Aide (Alumnus)
Recently an employee at Hobby Lobby, I have come to Buena Vista Club to take a break from retail life and improve my experience in working with children. I have taken a few child development classes and had been an aid for kids' summer camps for 5 summers.
I am a one-of-a-kind artist. Intrigued with the costume/theater world, I hand-make my own costumes based off of animated characters that range from video games, comics and cartoons.
I also partake in volunteer work of Holiday Family Parades, Birthday Party Entertainment and Special Needs Kids' Events. I will create the costume and take on the role of a familiar character and interact with the children and families.
Bringing smiles to kids and their parents is something I am very passionate about. I hope to, one day, combine my favorite hobby with working with children into a full-time job.
Still enrolled at Diablo Valley College, I plan to achieve an Associates of Arts degree in basic education. In addition to that, I hope to someday get an internship involving stage costume design.
Michael erickson, AIDE (ALUMNUS)
Hi, my name is Michael and I am a former Club Kid starting all the way back to Kindergarten. What I remember the most about Club is all the fun activities that there are to do. I especially enjoyed playing sports such as basketball, baseball and football. My love of sports has helped transition to my schooling as I graduated with a B.A. degree in Kenesiology from Saint Mary’s College and an A.S. degree in Physical Therapist Assistant from Carrington College. I enjoy helping people and being able to work with and help kids is very rewarding.
